Biographical Note

Renée Schatteman is an Associate Professor at Georgia State University where she teaches Postcolonial Literature. Her area of specialization is African literature, with a particular interest in literature from southern Africa. She co-wrote a three-volume curriculum guide to African literature entitled Voices from the Continent (published by Africa World Press) and has written articles about and interviews with numerous African writers, in particular Sindiwe Magona, Zakes Mda, and Tsitsi Dangaremebga.

Biographical Note

Ted Kesler is an associate professor in the Department of Elementary and Early Childhood Education at Queens College, CUNY. Ted’s research interests include multimodal responses to literature, children’s non-fiction, and critical media literacy. His scholarship and creative publications have appeared in a variety of journals, including Reading and Writing Quarterly, Language Arts, Children’s Literature in Education, The Elementary School Journal, and Journal of Literacy Research.
